In order to find a solution to this, engineers developed unplasticised PVC, or uPVC, a rigid form of PVC that could withstand pressure or heat without losing its strength and stability. uPVC combined the advantages of plastic with the durability needed for infrastructure applications. It quickly became a preferred choice for plumbing, drainage, and eventually for electrical conduit systems.
